POPE'S ITINERARY-QUEBEC CITY, EDMONTON & IQALUIT
"The visit comes after the Pope’s historic apology last month for the Roman Catholic Church’s role in residential schools in Canada. The capital cities of Edmonton, Quebec City and Iqaluit will act as bases for the trip from July 24 to 29."
George Arcand Jr., Treaty 6 Grand Chief, said he welcomes the news of the Pope’s visit to Treaty 6 Territory. Edmonton is located within Treaty 6 Territory. There are numerous residential school sites across the country identified for the Pope’s visit.

“I recognize the impact the Pope’s visit will have in Treaty 6, to the survivors, their families and communities. My prayers are with the survivors — it is my hope we are on a path to healing and that survivors’ truths are validated with this historic visit to our Territories,” Arcand said in a statement.
One would think Ground Zero would be his first stop.
“This I do see as a missed opportunity to visit Tk’emlúps — ground zero — and hear directly from survivors and intergenerational survivors and offer more words of apology, retribution and reconciliation,” Casimir said.
