I've listened to and read many horror stories of the treatment by priests, nuns and support staff.
A woman remembers being beaten frequently in her bunk by a nun. The children were fed so little they would sneak out of the dorm room at night, into the kitchen and steal potatoes, return to their beds and eat them under the covers.
One Christmas shortly after the theft, the heard the nun coming down the hallway and hunkered down in their beds trying not to be the one to receive her rath.
The Vatican's representative made her rounds and exited the room, walked down the hallway, slipped on the top step, fell to her death.
When the children heard about their oppressor's passing, they collectively felt that they had just received the best Christmas present ever.
It would be interesting to hear how the above survivor feels about the Pope's apology.
Our appreciation to YouTube for the photo and video.
Great job by Canada's indigenous to convince the Vatican of the need. Wonder why he isn't coming to America too. They engaged in the same atrocities here.
"Currie Hall believes that the U.S. Catholic leaders' reluctance to comment publicly about the church’s role in operating boarding schools may stem from fears of being called upon to make financial reparations as is happening in Canada."
