"The deputy chief of the Vancouver Police Department says he is “appalled” by the “vile and abusive comments” officers have received on Twitter after a Friday rally in the city turned violent."
VPD deputy chief is ignorant of what 'Freedom of Expression' actually means in Canada. Individuals or groups are not allowed to spread hatred towards any other group or individual - it's illegal. The VPD had every opportunity to apprehend and arrest those who were violent at the rally, but they didn't and now are asking for our help.

Regardless of the political component, riot control is a complicated police tactic as was noted during the Vancouver Stanley Cup Riots.
I studied under Col. Rex Applegate in Oregon.
"After retiring from the Army as a lieutenant colonel at the end of World War II, Mr. Applegate spent almost two decades in Mexico, acting as a riot-control consultant to Latin American governments. He returned to the United States in the 1960's, a time of widespread urban riots, and began advising the armed forces and police agencies on riot-control techniques and weaponry."
