Several friends are preparing for their last offspring to graduate high school and head off to a post-secondary future leaving their folks as Empty Nesters.
Some of those parents will have their child's former bedroom painted and reassigned within the first 48 hours while others will create a shrine, leaving the room as left by their departing child, hoping one day either s/he will return for a visit.

Not being a parent I can't relate to the post directly but when I left home for the University of Montana within two days my Mom had redecorated my bedroom into a sewing/crafts retreat.
