A Kamloops man who beat his girlfriend and then left her on the side of the highway near Sorrento has avoided jail after pleading guilty to a serious assault charge.
Timothy Paul Harris will instead spend 30 days on house arrest and another 18 months on probation. The 31-year-old was sentenced on Thursday in Kamloops provincial court after pleading guilty to one count of assault causing bodily harm.
Police were called to a stretch of Highway 1 in the Sorrento area just before midnight on Nov. 19, 2021. A resident in the area dialed 911 after hearing a woman screaming "Get off me!"
A Mountie arrived at the scene and found a woman hitchhiking with a bloodied and bruised face. She told the officer her boyfriend hit her during an argument in his vehicle.
She said he left her at the side of the road.
