Surrey mayor announces a possible 55% property tax rate increase to cover the cost of Surrey Police Service.
"Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke is warning that Surrey residents can expect a one-time property tax increase of 55 per cent if the Surrey Police Service gets the green light from Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth later this month to forge ahead in the transition from the Surrey RCMP to a city-made police force."
Independent accounting firm which examined the budget claims zero tax increase will be required.
Coun. Linda Annis, called Locke’s statements a “scare tactic."
Where is the truth?
Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth weighs in.
Pen and I love this show! As newcomers to the Vancouver area we are delighted to view a news program based on facts.
This issue is interesting in light of the fact that the voting results show a .83 difference in percentage of votes between Brenda Locke and Doug McCallum.
The fact that the 69 year old mayor is a BC United politician certainly has to have a great deal to do with her push back on the policing issue against the NDP.
Locke has a long list of political defeats before narrowly grabbing the leadership role and may consider this a last ditch effort to hold onto her position.
