The irony here is that these ignorant American politicians are unable to accept that they began the trade war.
Trump agreed to the current USMCA of 2020 and for whatever reason believes it is unfair, even though he signed it.
He wants an early renegotiation but instead of approaching the issue honorably, he huffs and puffs and denigrates every American trading partner then blames them (as Sullivan is doing) for the current hostilities.
“Two can play this game,” he told 650-KENI, a local radio station in Alaska. “So, Canada, you don’t want to mess with Alaska. If you do, we’re going to work hard on having our cruise ships bypass your ports, and that’ll help our economy tremendously.”
Sullivan is referring to this.
"B.C. Premier David Eby announced Thursday that the province will soon introduce legislation giving it the ability to levy fees on U.S. commercial vehicles shipping goods through B.C. to Alaska, a move the industry says could invite further retaliation from U.S. President Donald Trump."
Like Trump, if Sullivan can't get his way he will convince Mr. Bloviate to pass an Executive Order to contravene this:
"Sullivan cites the Passenger Vessel Services Act (PVSA), which bans foreign cruise ships from transporting passengers between two U.S. ports without stopping at a foreign port; in this case, those are ports in B.C. This was signed into law in 1886, and that’s what Sullivan wants to circumvent.
The legislation is often discussed in conjunction with The Jones Act, otherwise known as the Merchant Marine Act of 1920, which is similar. The latter was designed predominantly for cargo ships but applies to cruises as well."
