This is February 2022. Black History Month is upon us again. Some people say that Black History is Canadian History. Some people say every month is black history month.
Will our celebration of Black History include discussions on tactics and strategies to combat White Supremacist/Racist Behaviour? Yesterday history required these discussions, and the day before that. And so on.
After all, the question could be asked “what have we done lately to expose and hold accountable individuals who try and hold us Black Folk back from becoming all that we can be”? Especially in policing.
We Black People should show and discuss that part of Black History that gave a clear message to the people who try and hold us back. That is, let us go work to be all we can be or pay the price for hanging on.
We Black People can be powerful or we can be pitiful. But we can’t be both.
